Artist of the Month - Dave Burke, October 2009
Dave Burke - a Northwest native woodworker
The
Golden Art Gallery is pleased to have Dave Burke as October's "Artist of
the Month".
The white oak, turned natural edge bowl with turquoise and brass inlay is just one example of his artwork. You can find more examples on Dave's artist page.
Dave creates wine stoppers, vases, bowls, jewelry boxes among other beautiful objects.
As an extra treat, Dave will be also demonstrating his woodworking art at Second Thursday, October 8, 2009.

Dave started life with an inborn interest in all things related to shaping wood. Early in his schooling in Portland he had his first experience with power tools, in particular the lathe. That sixth grade class opened the door to his creative ambitions and he has retained this interest all through his life.
After High School he joined the Marines and his talent for the culinary arts was utilized so he became
a Food Service Specialist. One of his greatest achievements in that
field was his Best of Show in the Culinary Arts, Tustin, CA Chamber
competition. After a ten year stint in the service he moved back to the
Portland area and started Burke's First Quality Floor covering which
he operated for ten years. A dreadful car accident forced him into
early retirement but he now spends his all his time creating
wonderful wood works that are imaginative and beautifully executed.
Dave is married and he and Janet have four boys and four grandchildren. He is a member of the Golden Art Gallery and the Cascade Woodturners, a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. His cooking skills have also come into play for the Art Gallery. He has worked on two of the annual gallery Dinner/Auction events as the head chef garnering accolades for his skills each time.
Dave is constantly challenging himself to create new projects and his work is very impressive. He is noted for the fine detail and quality finishes he puts on each project.
