May 13, 2010 - Second Thursday - 4-8 PM
The wine selection this month showcases the versatility and
capability of our "Neighborhood Winemakers."
So far in 2010, Gorge Wineries have captured very impressive awards from a world class wine competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, and from the highly recognized regional competition, the Northwest Wine Summit.
We all know these are not the best of times economically in the wine industry or most any other for that matter. Yet, as is so often the case, it is the small, highly motivated entrepreneur, dedicated to excellence and superior performance that lights the way in these times.
So, it is such a pleasure to pour these wines for you.
Let's start with the reds.
- Marchesi Vineyards 2008 Sangiovese was awarded Double Gold at The San Francisco International Wine Competition this year. This competition attracted some 4,900 entries from all over the globe. It is simply delicious.
- Jacob Williams Winery 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded "Best Red Wine" and "Best Oregon Wine" at this year's Wine Summit Northwest. Held this year at the Historic Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River, this competition attracted some 1,100 entries. The awards speak for themselves.
- COR Cellars Momentum - A perpetual crowd pleaser, this delightful red blend complements meat dishes, sharp full-bodied cheeses and is a sure sign of welcoming to all your guests at that summer afternoon Patio party.
Not to be left behind, the whites this month are selected to showcase the versatility of Gorge White Wines.
- COR Cellars Alba COR - Blending two classic Northern European varietals, this beautifully balanced, dry white wine contrasts the fun loving nature of the Gewurztraminer with the robust richness of fully mature Pinot Gris.
- Marchesi Vineyards 2008 Pinot Grigio - Vivacious as an Italian Dive, fun loving as Sicilian Sunshine, this 100% Pinot Grigio is light and lively for that afternoon aperitif and has the balance and body for pairing with your favorite lightly herbed salads, seafood and poultry dishes.
- Jacob Williams Winery 2007 Chardonnay - A delicate Chardonnay, finished without touching wood, showing fruit and balance that stands alone or works wonderfully with light springtime suppers.
That's our line up for May 13th. As usual we are at the Golden Art Gallery from 4:00 to 8:00 pm to help with the "Artist of the Month" celebration and to add some fun and relaxation while you enjoy the art. Lou Marzelas will entertain everyone on his guitar. See you then!
