March 11, 2010 - Second Thursday - 4-8 PM
First,
to all the folks who worked to make the Second Thursday, March 10
event a great success, thank you!
Doug Siegel's musical selections added an especially welcome ambience. The art sales were truly outstanding. Please take a moment to read our blog entry about the event.
Now, the results of the great Viognier blind tasting...
- Wine A - Coyote Canyon Vineyard 2008 received 3.5 first place votes
- Wine B - Maryhill Winery 2008 received 2 first place votes.
- Wine C - McKinley Springs Winery 2008 got 5.5 first place votes.
- Wine D - The Pines 1852 2007 got 1 first place vote.
A couple of notes...
Coyote Canyon and McKinley Springs are neighboring vineyard operations in Horse Heaven Hills. It has been said that 85% of what makes wine of surpassing quality comes from the work of Mother Nature in the vineyard.
This leads me to note number two. One of the most proficient "tasters" in the crowd, following the tasting flight, asked if we could mix A and C in equal amounts. So, we tried that, and, to the tastes of the two of us and another person whose opinion we asked, the resulting blend was discernibly superior to the single vineyard samples.
Ahhh, the art of winemaking.
All the wines sampled are available at the Goldendale IGA with price points from $11.00 to $18.00. If you buy six bottles, you will receive a 10% discount.
Also, the Jacob Williams Winery is also on the shelf at IGA.
Lastly, I think we had a great time. Thanks for the evening. I'm looking ahead to the next great wine blind tasting!
