Joan Crice
Artist statement:
I always have had the urge to draw. During high school on Long Island, NY, I majored in art and even spent time plein aire painting with like-minded friends. I planned on continuing my education in art but instead became very involved in marriage and raising my family. During this time I took craft courses with the Extension Service and art courses through a local college. Sprinkled through the years were special clinics with artists. Special classes included copper jewelry, acid etching, silk screening, portrait and pallet knife painting as well as water colors.
After I moved to Goldendale, WA, I put everything on hold to care for my husband. With his passing I renewed my art interests. I took tole painting classes, advancing my skills in creative techniques. When the Golden Art Guild was formed I exhibited my tole ware and transitioned to fine art works as well. A recent venture was a color class with Jerry Yarnell of TV art show fame. Currently I am studying calligraphy and I am always looking for new ways to express my art and creativity.
I have fun painting with friends, either at our homes or plein aire painting once a week. We critique, create and enjoy ourselves immensely. I exhibit at the Golden Art Gallery in Goldendale. I also exhibit at the Klickitat County Fair, State Fair in Puyallup and have taken many ribbons and awards for my works. Other shows include the Goldendale Library, the Dalles Library, and have been juried in at shows in The Dalles Art Center.
