Peggy Ohlson - July 2010 Artist of the Month
The
Golden Art Gallery is pleased to host Peggy Ohlson as this month's
"Artist of the Month".
Raised in the Columbia River Gorge and inspired by its beauty, Peggy has been painting oil landscapes of the many scenic areas that the Pacific Northwest possesses.
While studying at the University of Washington for her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, she was able to study abroad and learn from exceptional teachers in Vienna, Austria and throughout Mexico.
Peggy has shown her work at the Maryhill Museum of Art, Washington and has show at art galleries in Hood River and Portland, Oregon, Ellensburg and Stevenson, Washington and Sun Valley, Idaho. she has been "Artist in Residence" in her home town of White Salmon, Washington. She has also taught classes at the Maryhill Museum of Art.
Although she is primarily known as a landscape painter, she has also shown her work at the Country Classic Horse Shows. She has painted horses, cows, dogs, cats, fish and people. Peggy says, "I love painting. You could say that I've always been drawn to it!" Click on Current Exhibition to see more examples of Peggy's work.
In the Shadow of Pahto - August 7, 2010
The
Golden Art Gallery presents its Annual Dinner & Auction, Saturday,
August 7, 2010. "In the Shadow of Pahto" celebrates regional,
contemporary and traditional Native American culture. There will be
cultural exhibits, entertainment, wine tasting and an art auction.
Please join us at the Goldendale Senior Center, 115 East Main St., Goldendale, WA for this event. Tickets are now on sale. The dinner costs $14 if purchased in advance, $17 at the door.

Second Thursday Artist Reception/Wine Tasting

We
have the wine line-up for Second Thursday.
Whites:
Syncline Wine Cellars Grüner Veltliner. This grape has been growing in Austria and the Czech Republic for a long time. Only recently has Underwood Vineyard become a producer. This is a must taste for all you dry white wine lovers. It is smooth and friendly without the customary acidic edge of other of your favorite whites. It will be a great companion to lighter summer fare and also works well as an aperitif.
Canyon's Edge Winery Sauvignon Blanc. They call it "New Zealand Style". More fruit, less acidity, some citrus, subdue herbaceousness.
Reds:
Canyon's Edge Winery Sangiovese. A recent release, it is true to varietal character. A bit of acidity balances the rich fruit and long delightful finish.
Canyon's Edge Winery Cabernet Sauvignon. Also a recent release, it is and award winner! The elegance and character of the cabernet; tannins that give structure and promise a long bottle life.
You will enjoy the variety and versatility of this flight. The bottle prices are affordable.

Summer Golden Art Gallery Classes
The Golden Art Gallery is pleased to announce new classes for
July and August 2010 including classes in scratchboard, beginning watercolor
techniques, clay and pottery techniques
as well as recycled art.
Classes are available for
both adult and young artists. For budding thespians, there is a
theater workshop focusing on the history of Goldendale.
The Golden Art Gallery has a weekly open studio class for children on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Please note the time change now that school is out!
