Christmas Open House
Thursday, December 11, 2014 4-7 PM
Help us celebrate the season with our usual Second Thursday reception at our new gallery, Big River Art and Crafts, 1040 East Broadway, next to Sod Busters' Restaurant. We will have Christmas music performed by Jeanne Morgan. Festive snacks are provided by gallery members, and Sod Busters will be pouring wine. We have many new artists now showing at the gallery, and our feature artist is Gayle Weisfield, a watercolorist extraordinaire. Gayle has won many national watercolor competitons, teaches in interesting places around the world, but still has her studio on her farm outside Lyle, just down the road from Goldendale. Come reaquaint yourself with our hometown artists and see the new work of our latest members. We have pottery, paintings, jewelry, quilts, toys, wood turned bowls and small items, wood furniture, prints, cards, baby blankets and afghans, hats and scarves, aprons, pillowcases, Christmas decorations, handmade glass dishes, bowlsand ornaments, natural body products, photography, bird houses and bird feeders, etc. We are happy to announce the return of handwoven towels and scarves by Beth Poirier. Come and join us, and win one of our door prizes! Yay, it's almost Christmas!
Those of you who have come in recently have seen the pencil, ink
and paint works by Lloyd Schwabauer. Lloyd lives in
Goldendale. His work is seen in the murals in Goldendale High
School. He is a twin, and his brother is a sculptor living in Idaho.
Lloyd spent some time in Africa and is working on a series of
African animals. He does his own framing, an art unto itself.
Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield is a painter and ceramics artist, as well as a writer. She will be our speaker this summer when we have our fundraising event. She lives in The Dalles and shows her work in four galleries in central Washington and Oregon. She makes molded pit- fired pots and wall shields, as well as paints dynamic landscapes.
Dan and Elsie Noble live by Beacon Rock near Bonneville Dam. Both are potters, with Dan as the glaze master, and Elsie working in calligraphy and raku plaques, water colors with calligraphy, as well as some hand-thrown pieces. Check out Dan's huge raku bowl decorated with Elsie's calligraphy.
Charlene Fort has shown with us several times, and is a glass blower living in Hood River. She is usually found on Tuesdays blowing glass at Nichols Art Glass Gallery in The Dalles, as well as other locations in the area. She is an active member of the Oregon Glass Guild and the Gorge Artists Open Studios organization. She shows at numerous fairs in the region.
